Greek is an old language, that has not changed much over the years.
In fact, the spoken English language has probably changed itself more since the time of Shakespeare, than the Greek language has changed since the gospels.

Learn Greek.

The official language of Greece is Greek, and it's spoken by 99% of the population. The language is spoken by at least 13.2 million people today in Greece, Cyprus, Italy, Albania and Turkey. In addition, a number of non-official, minority languages and some Greek dialects are spoken as well. The most common foreign languages learned by the Greeks are English, German, French and Italian.
About 80 percent of the entries in any English dictionary are borrowed, mainly from Latin. But over 60 percent of all English words have Greek or Latin roots. In the vocabulary of the sciences and technology, the figure rises to over 90 percent.
For an English Speaker to learn, Greek acts in particular, as really hard to learn. Not only for the English-speaking people, but for all Latin-oriented language speakers. It has different letters, various intonations and a quite difficult grammar to learn.
Greek is the only language on its branch of the Indo-European family tree. Its closest relations are the Indo-Iranian languages, and Armenian. Greek is the official language in Greece and Cyprus. It is officially recognised in the Albanian districts of Saranda and Gjirokastër.
